Clare Bower - BSc

Clare Bower has a BSc Computer Science. She has been involved in the training of Excel at different levels for many years and brings a high level of practical skill to bear.

Her career includes that of area manager for the SA Permanent Building Society, where her management role included the training of staff in various computer disciplines.

She elected to become self-employed and ran the National Computer College in Ladysmith, specializing in End-user Computer Training and Programming. Her qualifications include End-User Computer Trainer (Advanced).

In addition she took over MegaMasters Educational Computing - Ladysmith which specialises in End-user, Programming and Technical Computer Training. She holds the qualification of ICDL Trainer. She is also an accredited End-user Computer Assessor.

As a franchisee she managed these centres for 12 years where she predominantly trained the Advanced levels of the MS Office Professional Suite, MS Project, and Programming.

Colin Human - CA (SA)

Colin is a chartered accountant, with extensive business experience.

He has occupied various senior management positions in both public and private companies.
He is currently a non executive director of a number of listed and private companies.

He is also Managing Director of GoalFix (Pty) Ltd, a financial management consultancy, which operates in all aspects of corporate finance, and specifically in the arena of corporate performance improvement, financial health assessments, and building of complex financial models.

GoalFix owns and utilises a unique corporate financial analysis and forecasting software program, marketed under the name of "ValueGenerator".

Value Generator has been developed over a period of ten years, and is a highly effective tool used by senior management to improve shareholder returns, evaluate corporate performance or alternative strategic scenarios.

Colin became involved in lecturing and personal executive coaching in 1998 when he presented "Financial Courses for Non-Financial Managers" on behalf of The Mast Consulting Group.

In addition to the above course, he also presents courses internationally in "Advanced Excel Techniques", "Advanced Corporate Financial Modelling" and "Excel Project Modelling" on behalf of:-

  • Corporate Impact Training - Southern Africa
  • Financial Training Company - Hong Kong, Singapore

Jonny Leeb - CA (SA)

Jonny Leeb has conceptualised and assisted in the development of management tools used to support and measure the value outcome of strategic decisions. Jonny's valuation experience and the tools he has developed have been utilised in a variety of engagements including corporate finance support, mergers, acquisitions, capital raisings, management buy-outs, and valuations in terms of Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.

As far as corporate advisory work is concerned, current engagements include the pricing audit of a parastatal for competition compliance purposes. Significantly, he has developed a B-BBEE Scorecard calculator in compliance with the Codes of Good Practice which is being utilised to produce gap analyses and strategy opinions to local and multinational organisations.

Prior to his corporate advisory work, Jonny consulted on database design and systems implementation.

He has also served as a financial manager and divisional director. Jonny is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

He completed articles at Moores Rowland, having passed his SAICA final qualifying exams in 1988.

Eelco Lodewijks - BSc Civ Eng, MBA

Eelco is a specialist in financial analysis, Microsoft Excel, and business management. He has 25 years of corporate and investment finance, business consulting and management expertise, arising from specific experience in construction engineering, merchant banking and financial, marketing and production management.

More specifically, his experience is as follows:
Current year:
  • Strategic & financial analysis & consulting to large listed corporations;
  • Developing advanced Excel models for large listed corporations
  • Lecturing week long courses in advanced Excel (2 days) and advanced financial modelling in Excel (3 days) on the international circuit.

    Past Experience
    • 1997 - 2004 Purchased a loss making steel processing company, turned it around and sold it in December 2004;
    • 1986 - 1996 merchant banking - Industrial Development Corporation of SA. Corporate lending (6 years), seconded to manage oyster & mussel farm interest (2 years) & trouble shooting at defaulting borrowers (3 years);
    • 1985 - 1986 Production manager 25 000 m2 industrial textile production facility
    • 1971 - 1984 Eight years of construction site management experience on multi million dollar construction sites both in South Africa and the Middle East;

David V Theron - CA (SA)

Mr. Theron is a self-employed chartered accountant consulting and lecturing in the field of financial modelling.
He served articles with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG) and, after qualifying, spent some time with them in London.
He has extensive experience in the building of financial models dating back to 1971, when punched cards were used on mainframe computers.
He has been instrumental in the development of a wide variety of financial models, including the following:
  • A 5-year plan for Illings (now Samcor), where he held the position of Corporate Planning manager, embracing the production and sale of Mazda motor cars in South Africa
  • A 1-year plan for both BMW South Africa (where he held the position of Financial Controller), involving modelling from the shop floor through to the final sale of the motor cars, and culminating in a set of financial and cash flow statements.
  • A 20-30 year projection for the implementation of a water reticulation scheme in Nelspruit, South Africa, for the Development Bank of South Africa
  • A 1-year budget model for Bell Equipment Co
  • A 10-20 year projection for the establishment of nut and cherry farms for the Industrial Development Corp.
  • A number of comprehensive models involving numerous branches, consolidations, and inter-company transactions for public and private companies
  • Audits of financial models, including a model developed by Deloitte & Touche for the National Housing Finance Corporation He has presented many public and in-house financial modelling courses, amongst them courses for the Kuwait Investment Authority (Kuwait), the Queensland Competition Authority (Australia), Brunei Investment Authority (Brunei), Merrill Lynch (Australia), BNP Paribas (Hong Kong), AMBank (Malaysia), General Motors (Thailand), KPMG (South Africa), and Deloitte & Touche (South Africa and New Zealand).

He is currently presents public courses on corporate financial modelling in

He has also lectured at the Wits Business School, and acted as external examiner in the department of commerce at the University of the Witwatersrand.

Carmel Ives - BSc

Carmel is a qualified chemical engineer with considerable experience in diverse engineering projects and applications ranging from tendering, through the design phase to commissioning. She is the recipient of a Sastech Award for a project involving comparative analysis.
  • Over the years she has developed courses and provided Excel training up to Advanced level at release level 2003/2007.
  • Skills cover the Microsoft Office suite .
  • Has been involved in software development and various conversion applications using a number of different software packages.
  • Undertaken projects involving Feasibility, Costing, Optimisiation, Sizing, Project Management, Database etc. to firms in different countries.
  • Visual Basic skills.
